Route 66ers Celebrate 40th

The Class of '66 celebrated in grand style September 22 & 23, 2006 at the Omni Hotel in Dallas. On Friday we had music, dancing, Fajitas and lots of visiting with old friends! We then retreated to the Hospitality Suite where the hardy partied until the early morning hours.

On Saturday we remembered our classmates who left us too soon. At 1:00pm a beautiful service of remembrance was held for all who cared to attend. The honored guests were Victor Noah's Mother and the rest of the Noah family. It was indeed a day to remember, as we came together to honor and cherish the memories of our 45 deceased classmates.

Later in the afternoon a Teacher's Reception was held and we had the pleasure of visiting with Ramon Arguelles, Pat Fowler, Robert Headrick, Coach Bruce Norman & his wife Mary, Sam Pugh, Bob Snyder, and Mary Ann Thomas.

Saturday night's party was great!! We had dinner, a fantastic video presentation, a professional photographer and danced until midnight. The party then moved to the Hospitality Suite and it was very late before we all said good-bye. But many of us saw each other one more time the next morning at breakfast and as we checked-out to head home.

As many of you may have heard, there was a raucous Pillow Fight held during our reunion weekend. There were two teams pitted against each other. In one corner we had The Dainty Kittens, better known as Toni "Sharky" Rogers & Karen "Shortcake" Reynolds. In the other corner we had The Gruesome Twosome, also know as Karen "Bombshell" Melton & Ada "Crazylady" Henrie. The unbiased referee was Carol "Make me an offer" Carpenter. Omni pillows not as tough as SOC girls!!

     Dallas - The Dallas Omni Hotel hosted the SOC Class of 1966 40th Reunion on September 22 & 23, 2006. But, there was another party the Omni knew nothing about . . . an unofficial Pillow Fight!  However, this reporter did manage to gain access and has all the sordid details.
     Upon arriving at the undisclosed room I noticed The Dainty Duo weren't wearing the Omni's robe. Instead, they had custom robes with their team and individual names embroidered on them! The Gruesome Twosome had "borrowed" the Omni's robes. I'm sure they were returned? There had been rumors of payola and bribes to the referee, but I saw no evidence of money or gifts being exchanged. However, the Studmuffin who arrived was certainly impressive!!
     The first round was one-on-one with Crazylady and Sharky squaring off. They were a bit reserved and seemed to have respect for one another, until Sharky did a sneak attack on Crazylady after the bell rang!  Round two featured Karen VS Karen aka Shortcake and Bombshell.  They were more vicious and I think those Karate lessons paid off for Shortcake. Perhaps her new name should be "Dynamite".  But Bombshell certainly lived up to her name!  Then it was time for all 4 to mix it up. When they hit the floor, feathers flew . . . Literally!! The niceness wore off and the claws came out! The Omni pillows took a lickin' but hung in there until a crashing blow from Crazylady sent feathers flying everywhere!!  Referee Carol stepped in and ended the fight, declaring it a draw!
     Carol declared there was no one winner and it was a draw due to lack of pillows! Now the biggest problem was who was going to clean up the room and what to do with the evidence! I heard someone say something about taking the ruptured pillow to room 722. Not sure what that was about? But in this reporters view - - the real winner was Carol. Did you see that Studmuffin!!!
